A GENERAL GRAND CANYON RAFTING PACKLIST:

1. Good Sandals**(Wear them around before you embark on your trip. This will help prevent blisters from forming on the rafting trip.

2. A set of rain gear**(Primarily for early morning rapids. The rain gear does not have to be fancy, but get something better than a poncho.)

3. A nice camera**(The Grand Canyon has so many photo opportunities.  Some companies even offer photo trips with professional photographers.)

4. Extra Battery, film, and/or memory stick for your camera**(No recharging spots)

5. Hiking Shoes**(Anything that doesn’t give you blisters. Trail running shoes are great.)

6. Sunscreen**(Apply it frequently)

7. Lotion**(The sand, sun, and dry air leave you skin super dry)

8. Personal Hygiene Items**(Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, biodegradable soap, etc...)

9. Towel**

10. Small Pillow**(definitely worth the hassle)

11. Quick Dry Shorts**(3-5 pairs depending on length of trip)

12. T-shirts**(about 1 per day)

13. Underwear**

14. Long sleeve shirt**(Protect yourself from the sun)

15. Long Pants**(Protect yourself from the sun)

16. Socks**(Great for sore feet)

17. Swimsuits**(It is a water vacation)

18. Water Bottle**(For Hiking)

19. A good hat**(Protect your face nose and ears from the sun)

20. A good Book**(For relaxing)

21. Headlamp**(a flashlight is also fine)

22. Grand Canyon Books**(A river guide, a map, etc..)

23. Tip Money**(Industry standard is 5% to 10% of trip cost)

24. Sunglasses**(They fall in the river sometimes)

25. Chums**(To stop your sunglasses from falling in the river)

Besides having all of your personal gear ready to go.  You may also want to purchase some books relating to the Grand Canyon.  It is a must to have a Grand Canyon River Guide and field guide to the Grand Canyon.  Books-For-River-Runners.com is a great place to do this.  Their books are very reasonably priced and they have a large supply to choose from.

Grand Canyon River Guides

Grand Canyon River Guides is an organization who puts out a very informative quarterly publication. It has articles about Geology, History, Biology, and the Grand Canyon Community in General. It was founded by guides and many of the articles are guide based.


Grand Canyon River Runners Association

Grand Canyon River Runners is an organization founded by past commercial passengers. It is based around the passenger side of things and has some very fun and interesting poems, articles, pictures, and events that have happened in the canyon.
